This is an intentional decision to ensure the application runs stably on affordable specifications. What you can still do Upload and access photos and videos from browser and mobile app Automatic organization by date and location (EXIF metadata) Albums, favorites, sharing, archive, and locked folder Map view based on GPS metadata Multiuser support with peruser storage quota management Automatic backup from smartphones via mobile app What is not available in NoML Smart Search — Cannot search photos by object, scene, or natural language description Face Recognition — No automatic face clustering Object Detection — No object detection on photos CLIP Semantic Search — No contentbased semantic photo search Why NoML is better for standard specifications The Immich Machine Learning container alone requires a minimum of 2–3GB RAM just to load its models. On a standard 2 CPU / 2GB RAM package, running ML alongside the main server and database will cause Out of Memory (OOM) errors and application instability. With the NoML configuration, Immich runs stably on a minimum of 2 CPU / 2GB RAM, with approximate resource usage: Immich server: \600–800MB RAM PostgreSQL: \300–400MB RAM If you need ML features (smart search, face recognition), consider moving to VM solution with packet at least 6GB RAM. Recommended resource package Minimum, Nano (1 CPU / 2GB RAM), already sufficient for personal use with few concurrent uploads, based on the NoML resource calculation above (\600800MB for the server, \300400MB for PostgreSQL) Recommended, Small (2 CPU / 4GB RAM), gives more headroom for multiple users accessing and uploading at the same time without approaching the RAM limit Production, Medium (6 CPU / 12GB RAM), suitable for teams with many active users and high concurrent upload volume. If you need Machine Learning features such as smart search or face recognition, consider CloudRaya VM instead of upgrading to Large here, since ML resource requirements are far beyond what any serverless container tier supports
